Special Projects

• Encyclopedia of Human Biology, 1991. This 7-volume set was indexed by several indexers and sent to me by the publisher to merge the individual indexes into one master index for the entire set. I also edited and typeset the index.
• Encyclopedia of Earth Science Systems, 1991. This 4-volume set was indexed by four indexes and sent to me for merging and editing.
• Encyclopedia of Physical Science and Technology, 2nd ed., 1992. For this 17-volume set, I selected the indexers, merged their individual indexes into one large index (85,000+ entries), edited the index, and delivered the camera-ready typeset product to the publisher.
• Journal of Thomas Moore. Published one volume at a time from 1983-1991, each volume had a name index only. The preparation of the final index involved re-indexing all six volumes in order to include subjects as well as names. The project involved several indexers. I edited and typeset the final index.
• San Antonio Register Index. The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) had obtained a Texas Treasures Grant to index the first 10 years of the San Antonio Register (SAR), the longest-running African American community newspaper in San Antonio Ellen Hanks and I worked together on the project from November, 1999 through September, 2000. We provided one camera-ready copy of the 30,457 entry-index, and an HTML version created with HTMLPrep. The index can be viewed at http://www.lib.utsa.edu/Collection_Development/sar/index.html.
• Transactions of the House of Delegates (Texas Medical Association, 1978- ). This is an ongoing index for the governing body of the Texas Medical Association.

Web Indexes

In 1997 I had the opportunity to create my first Web index, the University of Texas at Austin (U.T.) Policies and Procedures Web Site. The Web index is an outgrowth of the original online version of the policies and procedures (TxPoly), a project that started in the early 1980s. The text files were provided to me by a U.T. programmer. I converted the ASCII files to HTML, formatted all the text files, and inserted anchors for the index entries. I edited my original index files and inserted the links for the anchors placed in the text files. Unfortunately, the University recently decided not to maintain the index, but the policy manuals are still available online.
